Carmichael Real Estate Search

The area where Carmichael is now located was once part of a large Mexican land grant made in 1844 to Joel Dedmond. Daniel Carmichael bought about 2,000 acres of land here in the early 1900’s. It was known as Carmichael Colony No. 1. He later bought more acreage and called it Carmichael Colony No. 2.

Daniel Carmichael was the founder of the community. He divided up the property into lots and began to sell them off. The first settlers bought in 1907. As the area grew, a business district eventually developed.

It is home to one of only two regional branch libraries in the county, and to the San Juan Unified School District, one of the highest rated districts in the nation.
Many treasures are to be found in Carmichael, such as the rare hybrids of camellias, dogwood, and other flora in the Jensen Botanical Gardens, or the exhibits of flora and fauna at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center.
The community’s riches include an 18-hole golf course that’s one of the best public courses anywhere, and Ancil Hoffman Park’s 85-acre nature study area and equestrian trails.
